To Earn Money Before I Get Monetized, I'm Making These 6 Types of YouTube Videos

It's going to take me another year or more to get monetized as a YouTuber, so I'm shifting my strategy to focus on videos that will serve dual purposes of helping me earn income as I work towards monetization, so that I don't have to work for YouTube for free.

In this post, I'm going to share about the six different types of videos that will more effectively help me accomplish my goal of earning income, while killing as many birds as possible with a single stone.

Let's dive into each of the six video types and the purpose each will serve in reaching my goals. I'll explain why the video is helping me achieve the goal so you can identify which of these types of videos will help you on your journey.

First, I'll Be Creating Videos to Promote Digital Products (Mine and Affiliate)

I've got two books, one for freelancers on how to earn a six-figure income while working part-time. And another book for small business owners who are stuck.

I'm also an affiliate partner for numerous software applications I use as a freelancer or with my freelancing clients. This means I get paid if you sign up for them using my links.

These types of videos are intended to earn an income directly from the video content.

Any amount I earn will be more than what I'd make doing a different type of video, so it's a way to start planting revenue seeds.

The Second Type of Video I Plan to Create Is Videos That I Expect to Get Traction

For example, every month, I create a video going over my YouTube analytics from the prior month. They usually get good traction, so I'll keep doing them.

There are other trends and researched videos I expect would do well for my channel, and so those would fall in this bucket.

Experimental videos also fall in this category. If I do something on YouTube or some other platform that few or no one is talking about, it's a great chance for me to get traction. So, if I can get a guaranteed win (at least as far as I can predict it), I'll do it.

The Third Type of Video I'll Produce Is Quality Videos like My Series, Juniper and Jones

These are more involved videos, stories, and editing. This would include videos where I've got great footage and can compose it into something interesting (like some of our travel).

The Fourth Type of Video I'll Create Is Killing Two Birds with One Stone

This would include advising my prospective clients. I might as well kill two birds with one stone.

This would also include work session videos. I did one where I prepared for a podcast interview and another where I updated my path of the freelancer book landing pages. I've got another one where I'm going to work through the editing process of my third book.

These are great because I accomplish multiple project directives with the video.

The Fifth Category of Videos I'll Be Producing Is Easy-to-make Videos

Ideally, I'll do easy videos that also cross over with one of the types above, but ultimately, if it's quick and easy to make, it's something I may do to keep my YouTube channel moving forward.

The Sixth Type of Video Will Be Videos That Are Sponsored!

I'm happy to create relevant content for sponsors so that if I land one, it'll allow me to create content that may not fit it any of the other categories (although hopefully it'll still get traction).

The six types of videos will promote my products, have a high likelihood of gaining traction, are fun high quality projects, accomplish multiple task objectives, are easy to make, or are sponsored!

This strategy will guide my YouTube creation until I get monetized. Once that happens, I'll reevaluate.

How about you? As you work towards monetization, what are some video types you think would be smart to do?
