This is the 4K Webcam I Use and Recommend for Podcasters, YouTubers and Virtual Meetings

For years, I had a mediocre webcam to record my podcast and conduct video calls. The problem was that all available webcams were mediocre.
When the pandemic hit, I expected that to change quickly, but it did not, and countless bad webcams continued to be sold.
And so, I waited.
I wanted a 4K resolution HD webcam that looked good and was affordable, and eventually, AVerMedia came out with one, the PW513 4K Webcam. As soon as I discovered it and it became affordable, I snatched it up in August 2021. I've been using it ever since.
Originally, I paid $191 for it (the first time it went on sale). You can get the same 4K Webcam for around $110 on Amazon now.
A DSLR is going to be a better camera, but if you're looking for something good and easy, the AVerMedia P513 is the way to go. The AVerMedia software also provides a lot of options, including digital effects and virtual cropping.
Here's what it looks like in full view, from my YouTube video on lighting.
Below, is how I crop it for my video monologues and podcast recordings. That snapshot comes from this video about my YouTube growth progress.
It's a solid webcam, and I'm happy with all the easy recording it's done for me. I'll continue to use it ongoing until I upgrade to a DSLR setup.
The camera does have a microphone, and if you're only using the webcam for meetings, it would be fine. If you're going to use the camera for podcasting or YouTube, I definitely recommend getting a dedicated microphone that records at a higher quality.
One other consideration is that the webcam can generate a lot of heat and use a lot of computer processing power, especially if you're using different effects. So, if you have a low-performance computer, it may not be a good choice.
Here's how I've got the webcam set up in my office. At the back of my standing desk, I've got a little shelf it sits on, and the cord wraps around into my USB dock.
